Resolve to Ride Transit in 2017

Several students who attended the 19th annual Transportation Symposium and Business Exchange  were offered positions with vendors.

The RTA has an idea for a New Year’s Resolution you can keep!  It’s healthy, good for the economy and the environment and affordable. Ride the region’s transit system in 2017 and enjoy one of the benefits of living in our six county region.

  • Studies show transit riders get more daily exercise than those who use other modes
  • Every dollar invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns
  • Public transportation use in the United States saves 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually
  • A two-person household in our region can save nearly $1,000 a month by switching a daily commute from driving to taking public transportation.

Transit benefits our region in other ways as well.  This year, several of the students who attended the 19th Annual Transportation Symposium and Business Exchange were offered either a full time position or the opportunity for an interview.  This event is a partnership between the RTA, CTA, Metra, Pace, IDOT and the Illinois Tollway. It focuses on providing information about how to obtain transit agency contracts with a special emphasis on Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, Minority Owned Business Enterprises, Women Owned Business Enterprises, Veteran Owned Small Business and Small Business Enterprises. It also has an important networking element, which is how these students got the chance to put their best “feet” forward.

We have had a productive year at the RTA and we hope you have too.  I join the RTA staff and Board of Directors in wishing you a happy and peaceful 2017.
